X-Customs SwiX Installation

Replacing the stock ~250g microswitch on a Kingman Spyder with a lighter 50g switch has been long-accepted as a very effective way to reach higher rates of fire. The process is simple, inexpensive, and requires very little time and effort relative to most Spyder modifications.

Instructions for installing the X-Customs SwiX can be viewed below via this website or may be downloaded and printed in Microsoft Word (.doc) or Adobe Reader (.pdf) formats. Should you find something you think should be included in the article, please feel free to contact us.

Tools and Materials Required:

* Hammer
* M5 metric allen wrench
* 3/32" pin punch (or nail)
* Phillips-head screwdriver
* Small flathead screwdriver (eyeglasses kit) / safety pin / needle
* X-Customs SwiX

Procedure:

Make sure you have a clear and organized tabletop or bench and a small bowl to put any screws and pins that can be easily lost (Figure 1).

Remove the trigger frame from the marker and the grips from the trigger frame. Place the screws and bottom-line nuts in the bowl. Remove battery and set it aside (Figure 2).

There are three pins that must be removed. One is the pivot point of the trigger, and two secure the stock microswitch in place. Inspect these three pins for a smooth side and a star side (Figures 3 and 4). Star side is
typically the same side as the on/off switch.

Punch out the trigger pin on its smooth side with the punch/nail and a hammer (Figure 5). If this is the first time it’s been punched out, it will take some time. Don’t give up.

Once punched out, carefully remove the trigger. Be aware that there may be a loose trigger spring that is easily lost (Figure 6). Place these in the bowl.

Punch out the two remaining pins holding the stock microswitch in place (Figure 7). Again this will take time and effort if they have not been removed before. Be patient.

Carefully inspect the 5-wire housing that the trigger switch is plugged into. Use the small flathead screwdriver, safety pin, or needle to release the housing from the lock tabs and pry it upward out of the board (Figures 8 and 9).

Figure 9. Carefully pry housing from all sides out of the 5-pin header (board)

Once released, carefully remove the wires from the stock switch from the 5-wire housing by bending upward the lock tabs and lightly pulling on the wires (Figure 10).

You’re almost done! Slide out your stock microswitch. Now slide your new 50g switch in being careful to route the wires downward towards the board (Figure 11).

Now simply reinsert the microswitch pins and reinstall the trigger. Make sure that the pins maintain the same direction (star/smooth side) and that they are reinserted from the same side they exited (star side). Once
that’s done, insert the new SwiX wires into the same 5-wire housing as the stock switch (color order does not matter) and reinsert 5-wire housing back into the board (Figure 12).

Replace bottom-line nuts, grips, and reinstall the frame on your Spyder and you are done (Figure 13).

Conclusion:

Congratulations! You have completed the X-Customs SwiX installation. Take a little time to get used to the lighter pull and then go enjoy your new toy on the paintball field.
